Optimization of MLVA loci combination using metaheuristic methods
Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2023Multilocus variable number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) utilizes short DNA repeat polymorphism in genomes, which is termed variable number tandem repeat (VNTR), to differentiate closely related organisms. One research challenge is to find an optimal set of VNTR to distinguish different members accurately.

Evaluation of Brucella MLVA typing for human brucellosis
Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2007Human brucellosis is still the most common bacterial zoonosis worldwide. Neither well-known molecular tools nor the classical biotyping methods are satisfactory for subtyping of Brucella spp. Loci containing Variable Number of Tandem Repeats (VNTRs) have recently proved their usefulness in typing strains from animal origin despite the high genetic ...

MLVA genotyping of human Brucella isolates from Peru
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2009Recent human Brucella melitensis isolates from Peru were genotyped by multiple locus variable number repeat analysis. All 24 isolates originated from hospitalized patients living in the central part of Peru and consisted of six genomic groups comprising two to four isolates and nine unique genotypes.

To determine clonal characteristics of Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) strains causing invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in the Czech Republic (CR) in 2017. Clonal assignment of strains was performed in the National Reference Laboratory for Streptococcal Infections (NRL) by the routinely used method, multilocus sequence typing (MLST), and a ...

Multilocus variable number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) of Streptococcus pyogenes
Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2011We tested 21 polymorphic loci encoded by the genome of Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Streptococcus, GAS). Seven of them were chosen for the MLVA scheme. The primer pairs, designed for selected loci, detect from few to several alleles, and the method has a Simpson's Index of diversity of 0.957.

Impact of IS1111 insertion on the MLVA genotyping of Coxiella burnetii
Microbes and Infection, 2015Q fever epidemiological investigations of the likely sources of contamination may involve Coxiella burnetii MLVA for direct and rapid typing from clinical samples. However, little information is available with regards to PCR amplification failures in C. burnetii MLVA typing.

A software tool for the selection of Tandem Repeats for MLVA analysis
2013 35th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2013DNA fingerprinting is a reliable tool for identifying, tracing and characterizing bacterial clonal population structure. A recent technique is given by the Multiple Loci VNTR Analysis (MLVA), where VNTR denotes Variable Number of Tandem Repeats, that meets the need for fast and reliable typing methods by combining the polymorphic nature of tandem ...

MLVA typing and antibiotic susceptibility of Brucella human isolates from Liaoning, China
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2010We have characterized clinical isolates of Brucella melitensis from Liaoning, China, using multiple-locus variable-number repeat analysis of 16 loci (MLVA-16) and evaluated the antimicrobial susceptibilities in vitro. All 31 isolates shared the panel 1 genotype 42 profile suggesting that they belong to the 'East Mediterranean' group.
