MM5-HPAC simulation experiments
Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, 2005We evaluate mesoscale model predicted boundary-layer flow and the subsequent HPAC (Hazard Prediction and Assessment Capability) dispersion computation. The HPAC software allows for prediction of the effects of surface release of hazardous material into the atmosphere and collateral damage on civilian populations using either observed or numerical ...

MM5 Contrail Forecasting in Alaska
Monthly Weather Review, 2005Abstract The fifth-generation Pennsylvania State University–National Center for Atmospheric Research (PSU–NCAR) Mesoscale Model (MM5) is being used for forecasting the atmospheric layers of aircraft condensation trail (contrail) formation.

Two-Way Coupling the PROMET and MM5 Models
2016Regional climate models still lack in an adequate description of the land surface. Here, hydrological land surface models historically developed from small-scale catchment models with higher spatial resolution than regional climate models. Hence, they have a more detailed view on land surface processes.

Provisioning the MM5 Meteorological Model as Grid Scientific Workflow
2010 International Conference on Intelligent Networking and Collaborative Systems, 2010This article describes the enablement of the MM5 Meteorological model as a Computational Grid Workflow. Considering the challenges involved in converting legacy high performance scientific applications as service based workflows, this article provides an in-depth analysis and solutions thereof to design a Grid service based workflow of HPC scientific ...

Climate Variants of the MM5 and REMO Regional Climate Models
2016As global-scale climate scenarios at high spatial detail are not yet available due to existing limitations in computational resources, regional climate models are often applied to allow fine-scale consideration of climate change at the regional scale.

GPS PW assimilation into MM5 with the nudging technique
Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, Part A: Solid Earth and Geodesy, 2001Abstract We use a sub-set of European GPS network, equipped with surface meteorological sensors, to evaluate the impact of GPS precipitable water (PW) on the numerical weather prediction (NWP) model. GPS PW are assimilated into the PSU/NCAR nonhydrostatic model MM5 using both the Nudging technique and the Objective Analysis. The selected GPS network

An evaporation duct prediction model coupled with the MM5
Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 2015Evaporation duct is an abnormal refractive phenomenon in the marine atmosphere boundary layer. It has been generally accepted that the evaporation duct prominently affects the performance of the electronic equipment over the sea because of its wide distribution and frequent occurrence. It has become a research focus of the navies all over the world. At

Ozone sensitivity analysis with the MM5-CMAQ modeling system for Shanghai
Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2011Ozone has become one of the most important air pollution issues around the world. This article applied both O3/(NO(y)-NO(x)) and H2O2/HNO3 indicators to analyze the ozone sensitivity in urban and rural areas of Shanghai, with implementation of the MM5-CMAQ modeling system in July, 2007. The meteorological parameters were obtained by using the MM5 model.
