The Error of MM5 System Prediction Used in Electromagnetic Environment
2007 International Symposium on Microwave, Antenna, Propagation and EMC Technologies for Wireless Communications, 2007The MM5 system works well in predicting parameters of atmosphere in mesoscale. We introduce this prediction system into electromagnetic environment of atmosphere researching field, in order to calculating refractive-index. In this paper, We compare the observed data and predicted data collected between November and December 2005, to show the capability

Evaluation of Surface Fluxes from MM5 Using Observations
Monthly Weather Review, 1995Abstract Direct observations of surface fluxes of momentum, sensible, and latent heat from towers and aircraft are compared to output from the NCAR-Penn State Mesoscale Model MM5. The model flux parameterization is seen to work well if appropriate values of the roughness length z0 and moisture availability parameter M are specified.

Tracer Advection Using Dynamic Grid Adaptation and MM5
Monthly Weather Review, 2005Abstract A dynamic grid adaptation (DGA) technique is used to numerically simulate tracer transport at meso- and regional scales. A gridpoint redistribution scheme is designed to maximize heuristic characteristics of a “good” grid. The advective solver used in conjunction with the DGA is the multidimensional positive definite advection ...

Simulations of a rainfall process in Southeastern China with WRF and MM5
SPIE Proceedings, 2005In an attempt to understand the relative strengths of two state-of-art mesoscale models: WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting Model) and Penn State/NCAR MM5, a nested domain was constructed to simulate a precipitation process induced by land-sea wind shear in Southeastern China with the two models.

Performance Evaluation of MM5 on Clusters with Modern Interconnects: Scalability and Impact
2005Clusters have become a crucial technology for providing low-cost high performance computing to scientific applications like weather prediction. In addition, networks like Myrinet, InfiniBand and Quadrics have become popular as an interconnection technology for high performance clusters.

[Degradation of oil derivatives by Acinetobacter calcoaceticus MM5].
Microbiologia (Madrid, Spain), 1994This paper describes the isolation of microorganisms from polluted heating oil. The growth of one of them has been studied (Acinetobacter calcoaceticus MM5) in several linear and branched hydrocarbons as well as the effect of its growth on commercial diesel oil.

Introduction to Adjoint Techniques and the MM5 Adjoint Modeling System
1997Adjoint models are increasingly applied to many problems in meteorology and oceanography. The adjoint model of MM5 is a tool which effectively computes the gradient (or a Gateau-derivative) of any MM5 forecast aspect with respect to the model's control variables, which consist of model initial conditions, boundary conditions, and model parameters that ...

Forecast Model Uncertainty; MM5 Accuracy Over Utah
2004Abstract : Researchers are investigating various approaches to determine and portray weather forecast uncertainty. Methods requiring extensive computing power on the battlefield or massive data communications to the end user will not be implemented in the near future.
