Before Mnemosyne: Wilhelmine Cultural History Exhibitions and the Genesis of Warburg's Picture Atlas** [PDF]

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, Volume 47, Issue 4, Page 432-465, December 2024.
Abstract Aby Warburg's Bilderatlas Mnemosyne, left unfinished in 1929, has attracted significant interest in recent decades. This essay offers a new interpretation of Warburg's “picture atlas,” not in relation to modernist collage and photomontage, but as an heir to scientific pedagogical exhibitions of the late Wilhelmine period.

Protected area coverage of the full annual cycle of migratory butterflies [PDF]

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2025.
Abstract Effective conservation of migratory species relies on habitat protection throughout their annual cycle. Although protected areas (PAs) play a central role in conservation, their effectiveness at conserving habitats across the annual cycle of migratory species has rarely been assessed.

Phenology and foraging bias contribute to sex‐specific foraging patterns in the rare declining butterfly Argynnis idalia idalia [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 7, July 2023., 2023
Sex‐specific foraging behavior is an understudied driver of intraspecific variation in plant–pollinator relationships. We examined 21 years of flower visitation in the rare, declining butterfly Argynnis idalia idalia in order to determine the role that both phenology and visitation bias play in driving differences between male and female floral ...
