IET Smart Cities, Volume 8, Issue 1, January/December 2026.This study presents PoAD‐Lite, a lightweight, activity‐aware consensus protocol tailored for IoT blockchains. By integrating activity scoring, verifiable randomness and minimal state delegation, PoAD‐Lite achieves low latency (1.8–2.1 s), reduced energy cost (as low as 1.2 KB/block) and resilience under high validator churn.
