Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Multi-Mobile Computing

open access: yes, 2020
With mobile systems evermore ubiquitous, individual users often own multiple mobile systems and groups of users often have many mobile systems at their disposal. As a result, there is a growing demand for multi-mobile computing, the ability to combine the functionality of multiple mobile systems into a more capable one.

On subcellular distribution of the zinc finger 469 protein (ZNF469) and observed discrepancy in the localization of endogenous and overexpressed ZNF469

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZNF469 regulates the expression of genes encoding extracellular matrix proteins. Endogenous ZNF469 is predominantly cytoplasmic, while in transfected cells, it forms aggregates reminiscent of biomolecular condensates, located mainly in the nucleus. These condensates exhibit overlapping staining with proteasomes and are also associated with the mitotic ...

Cloud/fog computing resource management and pricing for blockchain networks

open access: yes, 2018
The mining process in blockchain requires solving a proof-of-work puzzle, which is resource expensive to implement in mobile devices due to the high computing power and energy needed.

Benign and malignant diagnosis of spinal tumors based on deep learning and weighted fusion framework on MRI

open access: yesInsights into Imaging, 2022
Background The application of deep learning has allowed significant progress in medical imaging. However, few studies have focused on the diagnosis of benign and malignant spinal tumors using medical imaging and age information at the patient level. This

KCS1 and VIP1, the genes encoding yeast phosphoinositol pyrophosphate synthases, are required for Ca2+‐mediated response to dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ca2+‐mediated response to DMSO was investigated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells expressing Ca2+‐dependent aequorin. Cell exposure to DMSO induced a cytosolic Ca2+ wave dependent on the integrity of the Cch1/Mid1 channel. Deletion of KCS1 or VIP1 genes encoding the phosphoinositol pyrophosphate (PP‐IP) synthases suppressed the DMSO‐induced Ca2 ...

Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Profiling the effect of low frequency mechanical vibration on the metabolic and oxidative stress responses of A431 carcinoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
20 Hz mechanical vibration induced A431 cancer cells' apoptosis without such effect on other healthy cell lines of L929 and C2C12. Lowered glucose consumption is observed specifically in A431. The expressions of ROS, HMGB1, and HSP1 levels initially increase and subsequently decrease in the cancer cell line, as opposed to L929 and C2C12, which ...
