Fundamental Challenges, Physical Implementations, and Integration Strategies for Ising Machines in Large‐Scale Optimization Tasks

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Ising machines are emerging as specialized hardware solvers for computationally hard optimization problems. This review examines five major platforms—digital CMOS, analog CMOS, emerging devices, coherent optics, and quantum systems—highlighting physics‐rooted advantages and shared bottlenecks in scalability and connectivity.

Perspective on mode-division multiplexing

Applied Physics Letters, 2021
We review the current status of mode-division multiplexing (MDM) techniques in fibers and on chips. Three system applications are introduced, including quasi-single mode transmission, multicore few-mode amplifier, and fiber sensing.

Mode division multiplexing in optical fibers

Applied Optics, 1982
Two modes have been launched into a conventional 10-m long multimode graded-index optical fiber using spatial filtering techniques. The measured cross talk between the two modes in the baseband is -20 dB at the output end of the fiber. Modal multiplexing thus appears to be possible over short fiber lengths.

Mode-Division Multiplexing at Visible Wavelengths

CLEO 2024
We demonstrate mode-division multiplexing at visible wavelengths (473 nm) for the first time using adiabatic mode couplers. We measure less than −15 dB and −20 dB crosstalk for TE2 and TE3 higher-order mode couplers, respectively.
