Influence of Brake Pad Temperature Variation on the Squeal Noise Characteristics of Disc’s In-Plane Vibration Mode

open access: yesSensors
This study investigated the squeal noise characteristics of the in-plane mode of the disc in a disc brake system as influenced by the temperature of the brake pad.

Mode coupling evolution in arbitrary inflationary backgrounds

open access: yes, 2010
The evolution of high order correlation functions of a test scalar field in arbitrary inflationary backgrounds is computed. Whenever possible, exact results are derived from quantum field theory calculations.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

An Optical Power Divider Based on Mode Coupling Using GaN/Al2O3 for Underwater Communication

open access: yesPhotonics, 2019
This paper details the design of a 1 × 8 optical power divider, using a gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor on sapphire, which can be applied to underwater optical wireless communication.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Transverse-mode coupling and diffraction loss in tunable Fabry–Pérot microcavities

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We report on measurements and modeling of the mode structure of tunable Fabry–Pérot optical microcavities with imperfect mirrors. We find that non-spherical mirror shape and finite mirror size leave the fundamental mode mostly unaffected, but lead to ...

Design of Silica Multimode Optical Fibers with Extremely Enlarged Core Diameter for Laser-Based Multi-Gigabit Short-Range Optical Networks

open access: yesPhotonics, 2018
This work presents an alternative fast and simple method for the design of a refractive index profile of silica multimode optical fibers (MMFs) with extremely enlarged core diameters of up to 100 µm for laser-based multi-gigabit short-range optical

Fourier-Transformed Local Density of States and Tunneling into a $D$-Wave Superconductor with Bosonic Modes

open access: yes, 2005
We analyze the effects of the electronic coupling to bosonic modes in a d-wave superconductor. The role of the scattering due to boson on the momentum transfer between electronic states in the Brilloine zone is addressed. We consider specific examples of

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
