Crossing and Anticrossing in Bent All-Glass Leakage Channel Microstructured Optical Fibers: The Effect of Polymer Coating

open access: yesPhotonics
This paper presents the results of a detailed theoretical study of the bending properties of all-glass leakage channel microstructured optical fibers (LC MOFs) with a polymer coating over a bending radius range from 4.8 cm to 10 cm.

Mode coupling theory for sheared granular liquids

open access: yes, 2013
Sheared granular liquids are studied by the mode coupling theory. It is shown that, in contrast to thermostatted systems, current correlations play an essential role in the dynamics.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Stability and Dynamics of Three-mode Coupling in δ Scuti Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Recent observations of δ Scuti stars find evidence of nonlinear three-mode coupling in their oscillation spectra. There are two types of three-mode coupling likely to be important in δ Scuti stars: (i) direct coupling, in which two linearly unstable ...

Impact of Internal Solitary Wave on Acoustic Propagation Based on Coupled Normal Mode Theory

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
An internal solitary wave (ISW) significantly affects acoustic propagation; however, its detailed characteristics are poorly understood. Simulation experiments of sound propagation in a shallow water environment are presented to examine the effects of ...

Strong coupling behavior of the neutron resonance mode in unconventional superconductors

open access: yes, 2013
We analyze whether and how the neutron resonance mode in unconventional superconductors is affected by higher order corrections in the coupling between spin excitations and fermionic quasiparticles and find that in general such corrections cannot be ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Proposal for ultrafast switching of ferroelectrics using mid-infrared pulses

open access: yes, 2015
I propose a method for ultrafast switching of ferroelectric polarization using mid-infrared pulses. This involves selectively exciting the highest frequency $A_1$ phonon mode of a ferroelectric material with an intense mid-infrared pulse. Large amplitude

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
