We propose a bend-insensitive grapefruit-type holey ring-core fiber to support orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes. The large air domain in the cladding, results in a large refractive index contrast between the ring-core and the cladding, which makes ...

Demonstration of PLC-based six-mode multiplexer for mode division multiplexing transmission
2015 European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), 2015We demonstrated a six-spatial-mode multiplexer using effective index matching and adiabatic mode transition. Six-mode multiplexing including the equal effective indices of LP 21 b and LP 02 was successfully achieved with a fabricated PLC on one chip.

Silicon mode multiplexer processing dual-path mode-division multiplexing signals
Optics Letters, 2016Great strides have been made in the optical interconnect for a mode-division multiplexing (MDM) system. The mode multiplexer/demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) is the crucial component for the MDM system. We propose and demonstrate a scheme that is different from the reported multiplexing schemes, mode MUX that tackles dual-path MDM signals simultaneously and ...

A Flexible and Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer for Mode Division Multiplexing Systems
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2020Reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) is one of the key building blocks for on-chip optical networks, which can download the desired signals from the bus waveguide to the corresponding drop port and upload the local signals from the add ...

Few-mode fibers for mode-division multiplexing
2013 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series, 2013The design of few-mode fibers will be discussed from the point of view of key attributes and fundamental limitations. We will consider the maximum number of modes that might be supported in a practical fiber.

Mode-Division Multiplexing at Visible Wavelengths
Conference on Lasers and Electro-OpticsWe demonstrate mode-division multiplexing at visible wavelengths (473 nm) for the first time using adiabatic mode couplers. We measure less than −15 dB and −20 dB crosstalk for TE2 and TE3 higher-order mode couplers, respectively.

Integrated mode converter for mode division multiplexing
SPIE Proceedings, 2016The ever growing demands of bandwidth in optical communication systems are making traditional Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) based systems to reach its limit. In order to cope with future bandwidth demand is necessary to use new levels of orthogonality, such as the waveguide mode or the polarization state.

Photonic Lanterns for Mode Division Multiplexing
Asia Communications and Photonics Conference 2014, 2014Photonic lanterns have been identified as a suitable technology for MDM. Photonic lanterns are mode converters with low loss, can introduce mode selectivity, can scale to many modes, and are easily integrated with current technologies.
