Low loss mode multiplexer de-multiplexer for mode division multiplexing over two mode fiber
2015 Workshop on Recent Advances in Photonics (WRAP), 2015Mode Division Multiplexing (MDM) over Few Mode Fiber (FMF) enhances the capacity of an optical fiber system by providing additional degrees of freedom in the form of modes which are selectively excited at the transmitter and selectively detected at the receiver. The key to capitalize on such a system is implementation of low loss mode multiplexer (mux)

Bidirectional mode-division multiplexers with antireflection gratings
Applied Optics, 2018A bidirectional mode-division multiplexer (BMDM) with antireflection gratings is designed, and its performance in terms of S-parameters is presented. A BMDM can (de)multiplex three modes with only two waveguides and a Bragg grating. The impact of return losses on the performance of BMDMs is studied and antireflection gratings are designed to reduce ...

Few-Mode Fibers for Space Division Multiplexing
Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2016Mode Division Multiplexing: potential high number of usable spatial modes and strong mode overlapping (high spatial density and efficient pumping for amplification) FMFs for WEAKLY-COUPLED MDM 4-LP-mode Fibers have been reported, 7-LP-mode Fibers (capacity increase of a factor of 12) seem feasible Main limitations are Aeff, Attenuation and XT: new ...

Integrated Tunable Mode Filter for Mode-Division Multiplexed System
2018 European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), 2018A fundamental/high-order mode tunable filter is proposed and demonstrated for mode-multiplexed optical network, based on Silicon platform. This reconfigurable mode filter exhibits high extinction ratio of 18 dB and low insertion loss of 3 dB over C-band.

Integrated tunable mode filter for a mode-division multiplexing system
Optics Letters, 2018Mode-division multiplexing (MDM) using multiple spatial modes as independent signals has been a promising technique to increase the communication capacity in conjunction with wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). In MDM systems, mode filters are key components to filter out the undesired signals on specific mode.

Integrated Switch for Mode-Division Multiplexing (MDM) and Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM)
CLEO: 2015, 2015We demonstrate the first integrated switch for mode-division multiplexing (MDM) and wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). We show on-chip routing of four 10 Gb/s channels with

Dual mode and wavelength-division multiplexing
Frontiers in Optics 2015, 2015Simultaneous mode and wavelength division multiplexing is proposed using integrated asymmetric directional coupler and multimode interference waveguide. Using numerical simulations, the device exhibits low insertion loss of 1.2dB and a cross-talk of -18dB.

Multimode Fibers for Mode Division Multiplexing
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2017Graded-index-core multimode fibers can be appropriately rescaled in diameters and optimized to have low differential mode group delays for 6 to 36 spatial modes for multiple-input-multiple-output mode-division-multiplexed transmissions.

Equalizer complexity of mode-division multiplexed coherent receivers
2012 14th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2012We show that OFDM requires the lowest equalizer complexity for crosstalk compensation in a mode-division-multiplexing receiver. For a 2000-km transmission distance and less than 10% ODFM-specific overhead, the modal dispersion must be below 12 ps ...
