PVC sandwich core materials: Mode I fracture toughness
Composites Science and Technology, 1989Abstract The fracture of a cracked PVC sandwich core material has been investigated. Mode I fracture toughness is evaluated using linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM), nonlinear fracture mechanics and a damage zone model. For the crack sizes and structural dimensions relevant to sandwich constructions, LEFM is not applicable according to the ASTM

Mode I Fracture Toughness Testing of Composite Pipes
Applied Composite Materials, 2013A common industrial production process for axially symmetric composites is filament winding. For this type of material, interlayer properties cannot be evaluated using the available ISO and ASTM standards because the curved surfaces and partially interwoven fibers of cylindrical parts can affect the results.

Mode I Fracture Toughness of CNT‐Reinforced PMMA
Strain, 2015AbstractThe influence of carbon nanotube (CNT) concentration on the fracture toughness of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was examined on single‐edge V‐notched‐beam (SEVNB) specimens. Six groups of SEVNB specimens containing 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8.5 wt% of CNTs and neat PMMA as a reference were tested.

Mixed mode (I+II) fracture toughness of polymer nanoclay nanocomposites
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2013Abstract In this work the mixed mode fracture behaviour (I + II) of an epoxy/nanoclay nanocomposite system is analysed, discussing the results from Single Edge Notch Bending tests. It is found that nanomodification significantly enhances the fracture toughness of the epoxy resin on the entire range of mixed mode loadings (from pure mode I to pure ...

Size and Geometry Effects on Rock Fracture Toughness: Mode I Fracture
Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2013In this paper, the effects of specimen size and geometry on the apparent mode I fracture toughness (K c) of an Iranian white marble (Neyriz) are studied. A number of fracture tests were conducted on center-cracked circular disk (CCCD) specimens with different radii to investigate the size effects on K c. The experimental

Mode-I dynamic fracture initiation toughness using torsion load
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2019Abstract An experimental and numerical approach is proposed to determine the dynamic fracture initiation toughness of materials from a cylindrical specimen with spiral surface crack subjected to dynamic torsional load using a torsional Hopkinson bar apparatus.

Mixed Mode I/II fracture toughness of bonded joints
International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 2002Mixed Mode I/II fracture experiments are conducted to determine the fracture toughness of a commercial elastomer methacrilate adhesive (Loctite Multibond 330) bonded joints. A compact tension-shear specimen geometry is adopted and the stress intensity factor (SIF) calibration is obtained by the finite element method using a correction factor approach ...

Mixed mode I/III fracture toughness of Armco iron
Acta Materialia, 1998The slope of the blunting line for Armco iron under mixed mode I/III loading was determined experimentally using stretch zone width measurements. It was found that the experimentally measured blunting line slope was always greater than that predicted by the existing empirical relation.
