Crossover from skin-mode to proton-neutron-mode in $E1$ excitations of neutron-rich nuclei

open access: yes, 2013
Character of the low-energy $E1$ excitations is investigated by analyzing transition densities obtained from the RPA calculations in the doubly-magic nuclei. We propose a decomposition method of the $E1$ excitations into the $pn$ mode (i.e.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Construction of Motion Mode Switching System by Machine Learning for Peristaltic Mixing Conveyor Based on Intestinal Movement

open access: yesIEEE Access
The high frequency of rocket launches requires low-cost solid rocket fuel. Currently, the fuel manufacturing process faces increased launch costs caused by the risk of ignition from rotary mixers and increased equipment and labor costs from batch ...

Growth rate of Rayleigh-Taylor turbulent mixing layers with the foliation approach

open access: yes, 2014
For years, astrophysicists, plasma fusion and fluid physicists have puzzled over Rayleigh-Taylor turbulent mixing layers. In particular, strong discrepancies in the growth rates have been observed between experiments and numerical simulations.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

The Measurement and Elimination of Mode Splitting: From the Perspective of the Partly Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition

open access: yesComplexity, 2018
The problems of mode mixing, mode splitting, and pseudocomponents caused by intermittence or white noise signals during empirical mode decomposition (EMD) are difficult to resolve. The partly ensemble EMD (PEEMD) method is introduced first.

Neutrino mixing and mass hierarchy in Gaussian landscapes

open access: yes, 2008
The flavor structure of the Standard Model may arise from random selection on a landscape. In a class of simple models, called "Gaussian landscapes," Yukawa couplings derive from overlap integrals of Gaussian zero-mode wavefunctions on an extra ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Crack Detection of Turnout Straight Switch Rail Bottom Based on Nonlinear Ultrasonic Frequency Mixing Technology

open access: yesUrban Rail Transit
Nonlinear ultrasonic frequency mixing exhibits high sensitivity and good localization capability for closed cracks. In this paper, nonlinear ultrasonic frequency mixing technology is used to investigate the contact acoustic nonlinearity phenomenon in ...
