Lyon Statistical Mode Shape Functions

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2017
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">From 1983 to 1995, Richard H. Lyon published several papers on Statistical Phase Analysis, showing that the average phase of the transfer functions in complex systems grows with frequency in proportion to the modal density of the system.

Mode Shape Identification and Damage Detection of Bridge by Movable Sensory System

IEEE transactions on intelligent transportation systems (Print), 2023
Indirect method to identify dynamic properties of bridge by a passing vehicle is attractive recently since it does not require pre-installed sensors on bridge.

Structural damage quantification in shear buildings using mode shape slope ratio

Structural Health Monitoring, 2022
Mode shape-based techniques are very popular among researchers since the last two decades and varying levels of success have been achieved towards identifying damage using structural mode shapes.

Mode shaping in multicore fibers

Optics Letters, 2007
We propose a novel multicore fiber design strategy for obtaining a flat in-phase supermode that optimizes utilization of the active medium inversion in the multiple cores. The spatially flat supermode is achieved by engineering the fiber so that the total mutual coupling between neighboring active cores is equal.

Mode shape–aided cable force determination using digital image correlation

Structural Health Monitoring, 2020
Assuming the distance between two nodal points of a specific cable vibration mode as the effective length of a pinned–pinned cable, mode shape–aided cable tension estimation methods are employed to estimate the cable force.

SENSITIVITY-BASED OPERATIONAL MODE SHAPE NORMALISATION

Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 2002
In the past few years, in-operation modal analysis has become a valid alternative for structures where classic forced vibration tests would be difficult, if not impossible, to conduct. A disadvantage of this method is that the excitation forces are unknown. Therefore, not all modal parameters can still be estimated.

Acoustic cavity modes in lens-shaped structures

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2003
A method for solving exactly the Helmholtz equation in parabolic rotational coordinates is presented using separability of the eigenfunctions and the Frobenius power series expansion technique. Two examples of interest in acoustics are considered and analyzed quasianalytically: The acoustic pressure in a cavity defined by two paraboloids (forming a ...
