From operating deflection shapes towards mode shapes using transmissibility measurements

Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 2010
Abstract A transmissibility measurement is the traditional way of making a frequency response measurement when the excitation force cannot be measured. It is calculated in the same way as the admittance function, or transfer function. Whereas the admittance function is the ratio of response divided by force, transmissibility is the ratio of a ...

Mode shape-aided tension force estimation of cable with arbitrary boundary conditions

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2019
The boundary conditions of the cable in a bridge are generally in the form of imperfect hinged or fixed ends rather than idealized clamped or pinned ends due to the effects of anchorage types and anchoring methods.

MODE-LOCKED LASER PULSE SHAPES

Applied Physics Letters, 1970
The pulse shape of a mode-locked continuously pumped Nd:YAG laser has been studied using an optical correlation technique. The shape is found to be Gaussian under stable conditions with the phase-modulator frequency tuned to the cavity-mode difference frequency.

A neural mode shape identifier

Proceedings of 3rd International Symposium on Uncertainty Modeling and Analysis and Annual Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society, 2002
A first stage for a fuzzy neural active controller is developed. Neural network technology is utilized in the real time identification of the mode of vibration of any structural system under seismic loading. The parallel processing nature of neural networks fit the nature of multi degree of freedom systems.

Rewards shape attentional search modes

Visual Cognition, 2015
Visual attention can be configured for specific stimulus features (feature search mode) or it can be non-specifically set for salient pop-outs (singleton detection mode). Additionally, monetary rewards have been shown to bias attention toward specific features, but it is unknown whether secondary reinforcers (images of US$) can shape global attention ...

The mode shape reversal

Computers & Structures, 1989
Abstract Given an arbitrary modal matrix describing the vibrational displacements of a discrete, linear, undamped shear building, a theoretical solution is presented to find the mass and stiffness coefficients of the system; thereby reversing the usual vibration problem.

The Use of Mode Shape Estimated from a Passing Vehicle for Structural Damage Localization and Quantification

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2019
Mode shapes estimated from the vehicle responses are normally used to detect bridge damage efficiently for their high spatial resolution. However, an updated baseline finite element model (FEM) is normally required to quantify damages for such an ...

Surface vibrational modes in disk-shaped resonators

Ultrasonics, 2014
The natural frequencies and distributions of displacement components for the surface vibrational modes in thin isotropic elastic disks are calculated. In particular, the research is focused on even solutions for low-lying resonant vibrations with large angular wave numbers.

Detection of Soliton Shape Modes in Polyacetylene

Physical Review Letters, 1986
We observed soliton shape modes by photoinduced absorption in partially isomerized ${(\mathrm{CH})}_{x}$ and ${(\mathrm{CD})}_{x}$, coexisting with the soliton translational modes. The shape modes' ir activity, their dependence on the degree of isomerization, and the photoinduced spectra are explained in detail by a symmetry-breaking interaction which ...

A novel tension estimation approach for elastic cables by elimination of complex boundary condition effects employing mode shape functions

Engineering structures, 2018
To establish a rigorous mathematical foundation for a recently developed tension determination method incorporating the mode shape functions, the frequency equations and mode shape functions for the vibrating cables with various types of boundary ...
