The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Dissecting the Role of the Extracellular Matrix in Heart Disease: Lessons from the Drosophila Genetic Model

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2017
The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a dynamic scaffold within organs and tissues that enables cell morphogenesis and provides structural support. Changes in the composition and organisation of the cardiac ECM are required for normal development. Congenital

Selection of resistance to cisplatin in saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model for antineoplastic drugs studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The budding yeast (S. cerevisiae) is an excellent eukaryotic model to study the antineoplastic drugs effects, due to the well-characterized metabolic and genetic characteristics and the conserved similarity in molecular mechanisms with other species ...

Modelling Electronic Organizations

open access: yes, 2007
Institutions are established to regulate the interactions between parties that are performing some (business) transaction. One of the main roles of institutions is to inspire trust into the parties that perform the transaction. The main focus of this paper is how an electronic organization should be specified on the basis of the abstract patterns given

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Behavioural Responses of the Colonial Sea Squirt Botrylloides violaceus Oka to Suspended Food Micro-Particles in Laboratory Cultures

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Violet sea squirts are noteworthy model organisms, because they provide insights into various physiologic processes, including cell senescence, ageing, apoptosis and allorecognition. Consequently, their culture is critical to permit experimental studies.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Yeast and its uses.

open access: yesKvasný průmysl, 2012
Yeasts are eukaryotic heterotrophic organisms belonging to fungi. In contrast to other eukaryotes yeasts possess thick and rigid cell wall. As a source of carbon and energy yeast can degrade sugars using two metabolic pathways: aerobic respiration and ...

ANN for Predicting Antibiotic Susceptibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
: In this research, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was developed and tested to predict efficiency of antibiotics in treating various bacteria types. Attributes that were taken in account are: organism name, specimen type, and antibiotic name as

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
