A two-state hysteresis model from high-dimensional friction [PDF]
In prior work (Biswas & Chatterjee 2014 Proc. R. Soc. A 470, 20130817 (doi:10.1098/rspa.2013.0817)), we developed a six-state hysteresis model from a high-dimensional frictional system.

Simple model for drag reduction [PDF]
Direct Numerical Simulations established that the FENE-P model of viscoelastic flows exhibits the phenomenon of turbulent drag reduction which is caused in experiments by dilute polymeric additives. To gain analytic understanding of the phenomenon we introduce in this Letter a simple 1-dimensional model of the FENE-P equations.

Changes in the Seasonally Frozen Ground Over the Eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the Past 60 Years
The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) has the largest extent of high altitude permafrost at the middle and low latitudes in northern hemisphere and is surrounded by dozens of seasonally frozen ground.

Mixed method of model reduction for uncertain systems [PDF]
A mixed method for reducing a higher order uncertain system to a stable reduced order one is proposed. Interval arithmetic is used to construct a generalized Routh table for determining the denominator polynomial of the reduced system.

On Model Order Reduction of Interconnect Circuit Network: A Fast and Accurate Method
The time cost in integrated circuit simulation is an important consideration in the design. This paper investigates the model order reduction of interconnect circuit networks to facilitate numerical analysis.

L 2 Model Reduction and Variance Reduction
The authors study several variance properties related to model reduction for finite impulse response (FIR) and output error (OE) models. The variances of two models, one deduced directly from data and the other by reducing a high order model by \(L_2\) model reduction, are compared.

Modeling and Perception of ‘Gesture Reduction’ [PDF]
AbstractThe phenomenon of vowel reduction is investigated by modeling ‘gesture reduction’ with the use of the Distinctive Region Model (DRM). First, a definition is proposed for the term gesture, i.e. an acoustically efficient command aimed at deforming, in the time domain, the area function of the vocal tract.

Error estimation of a proper orthogonal decomposition reduced model of a permanent magnet synchronous machine [PDF]
Model order reduction methods, like the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD), enable to reduce dramatically the size of a finite element (FE) model.

In this paper, we consider a coupled system of equations that describes simplified magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) problem in perforated domains. We construct a fine grid that resolves the perforations on the grid level in order to use a traditional ...
