SUMMARY We consider the problem of selecting one model from a large class of plausible models. A predictive Bayesian viewpoint is advocated to avoid the specification of prior probabilities for the candidate models and the detailed interpretation of the parameters in each model.

ABSTRACT Background and Aims Wilms tumour (WT) has excellent event‐free and overall survival (OS). However, small differences exist between countries participating in the same international study. This led us to examine variation in adherence to protocol recommendations as a potential contributing factor.

Estimating the causal effect of a variable is an important task for applied ecology. While several methods have been applied to empirical, observational studies, there have been a few attempts to employ the causal inference approach based on the ...

ABSTRACT Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare, high‐flow, vascular anomalies that can occur either sporadically or as part of a genetic syndrome. AVMs can progress with serious morbidity and even mortality if left unchecked. Sirolimus is an mTOR inhibitor that is effective in low‐flow vascular malformations; however, its role in AVMs is unclear.

Study of Electrolytic Capacitors Model Selection and Heat Sinking
The main reason of the heat was analyzed and a method to reduce the temperature rise of electrolytic capacitors was proposed. Through the analysis of the electrolytic capacitors’ internal structure, the cooling effect of common cooling methods was ...

Model Selection with the Loss Rank Principle
A key issue in statistics and machine learning is to automatically select the "right" model complexity, e.g., the number of neighbors to be averaged over in k nearest neighbor (kNN) regression or the polynomial degree in regression with polynomials.

A COMPETITIVE SELECTION MODEL [PDF]
ABSTRACT The proportionate contribution of a genotype to the next generation is not independent of frequency and cannot always safely be equated with a constant. Survival potential (Haldane's viability) permits the use of a genetic selection model which deals more realistically with competition. A broader property than survival potential,

Model Selection Techniques: An Overview [PDF]
In the era of big data, analysts usually explore various statistical models or machine learning methods for observed data in order to facilitate scientific discoveries or gain predictive power. Whatever data and fitting procedures are employed, a crucial step is to select the most appropriate model or method from a set of candidates. Model selection is
