Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Distributed agent-based building evacuation simulator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The optimisation of the evacuation of a building plays a fundamental role in emergency situations. The behaviour of individuals, the directions that civilians receive, and the actions of the emergency personnel, will affect the success of the operation ...

Volume Modeling for Rapid Prototyping [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The expanding workspace of Rapid Prototyping will draw on the new developments in geometric modeling. Volume modeling has substantial advantages over other modeling schemes to meet the emerging requirements of Rapid Prototyping technology.

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

Predictive Modeling of River Water Temperatures in Catu River: A Neural Network-Based Approach

open access: yesApplied Computational Intelligence and Soft Computing
Predicting water temperature (Tw) in tropical environments is crucial for ecosystem monitoring and the sustainable management of water resources. Highly accurate and reliable Tw forecasts are essential for the ecological management of rivers.

Modeling OpAmp-induced harmonic distortion for switched-capacitor ΣΔ modulator design [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
This communication reports a new modeling of opamp-induced harmonic distortion in SC ΣΔ modulators, which is aimed to optimum design of this kind of circuit for high-performance applications.

Modeling needs user modeling

open access: yesFrontiers in Artificial Intelligence, 2023
Modeling has actively tried to take the human out of the loop, originally for objectivity and recently also for automation. We argue that an unnecessary side effect has been that modeling workflows and machine learning pipelines have become restricted to only well-specified problems.

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...

Geographic variation in walking activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examined whether there is geographic variation in field populations, focusing on the moving activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum. Results showed significant differences in moving activity among field populations but no correlation with latitude or meteorological factors.

Application of Rain and Snow Phase Criterion Based on Ice-phase Particle Content Forecast by CMA-MESO

open access: yes应用气象学报, 2023
The forecast of rain and snow phase is one of the difficulties in precipitation forecast, which is of great significance for disaster prevention and reduction.
