Modeling and Integration for Complex Systems
2021 IEEE International Conference on Autonomic Computing and Self-Organizing Systems Companion (ACSOS-C), 2021In this paper, we propose a way forward in modeling complex software-managed systems that relies on two well-known mathematical constructs, the subdirect product and the quotient by a congruence relation. These mathematical techniques allow us to build models that correspond to different aspects of / concerns about the system (which we call viewpoints),

A Reliability Model for Complex Systems
2011 Fifth International Conference on Secure Software Integration and Reliability Improvement - Companion, 2011A model of software complexity and reliability is developed. It uses an evolutionary process to transition from one software system to the next, while complexity metrics are used to predict the reliability for each system. Our approach is experimental, using data pertinent to the NASA satellite systems application environment.

Patterns in Complex Systems Modeling
2005The design, development, and use of complex systems models raises a unique class of challenges and potential pitfalls, many of which are commonly recurring problems. Over time, researchers gain experience in this form of modeling, choosing algorithms, techniques, and frameworks that improve the quality, confidence level, and speed of development of ...

Modeling complex systems of systems with Phantom System Models
Systems Engineering, 2012Abstract Complex systems are commonly composed of interconnected and inter‐ and intradependent subsystems, which in their essence constitute systems of systems with multiple functions, operations, and stakeholders.

Complex Systems Modeling and Analysis
2019 Winter Simulation Conference (WSC), 2019Undesired or unexpected properties are frequent as large-scale, complex systems with non-linear interactions are being designed and implemented to answer real-life scenarios. Modeling these behaviors in complex systems, as well as analysing the large amounts of data generated in order to determine the effects of specific behaviors remains an open ...

The Validation of Models of Complex Systems
Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design, 1984This paper begins with a short review of various approaches to validation proposed in the modeling literature. It then discusses three alternative views of models: (1) the concept of model in mathematical logic, (2) the conventional (empiricist) view of models in the social sciences, and (3) an alternative view that sees models as the products of ...
