Desarrollo de modelo experimental animal de peritonitis bacteriana

open access: yes, 2020
OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to develop a model of abdominal sepsis in the experimental animal. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sprague-Dawley male rats of 5 weeks (N=39) were used. Initially, a pilot study (N = 9) was performed and distributed in 3 groups with 1cc inoculum of Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 intraperitoneally at concentrations of 10(8), 10(9)

Stable Isotope Analysis as a Tool to Prevent Illicit Wildlife Trade of Songbirds in Brazil

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Feather isotopes provide clear differences between wild and captive songbirds in Brazil. Combining multiple isotopes improved classification accuracy and revealed individuals falsely declared as captive‐bred. These results demonstrate the potential of isotope analysis to detect wildlife laundering in the bird trade.

Use of species’ responses to cryptic anthropogenic disturbances for monitoring biodiversity outcomes in tropical forests

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Measuring area‐based conservation outcomes in tropical forests is challenging due to cryptic human disturbances (e.g., hunting). As a result, comparative studies of management strategies providing quantitative outcomes remain scarce, especially in the Neotropics.

Modelos de regressão aleatória na avaliação genética do crescimento de ovinos da raça Santa Inês Random regression models on genetic evaluation on the growth of Santa Inês breed sheep

RGS14 (414)-mediated prevention of an episodic memory loss: a study of molecular mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A large proportion of human populations suffer memory impairments either caused by normal aging or afflicted by diverse neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. Memory enhancers and other drugs tested so far against memory loss have failed to produce

Hobbyist preferences for pet freshwater turtles

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The burgeoning pet trade is a primary threat to wild freshwater turtles worldwide. Although the risks from commercial exploitation of turtles have been discussed widely, there is little empirical research on preferences for pet turtles from a hobbyists’ perspective.
