Tocqueville’s Moderate Penal Theory

2018
In its analysis of nineteenth-century American penal goals, On the Penitentiary System presents a balanced view of human nature, a form of self-knowledge that penal reformers need when attempting to morally reform an individual via an institution. Ferkaluk argues that Tocqueville and Beaumont answer the question of whether incarceration should seek to ...

On a moderate rotation theory of thin-walled composite beams

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2000
A small strain and moderate rotation theory of laminated composite thin-walled beams is formulated by generalizing the classical Vlasov theory of sectorial areas. The proposed beam model accounts for axial, bending, torsion and warping deformations and allows one to predict critical loads and initial post-buckling behaviour.

Theory of transport in moderately dense gases

Physics Letters, 1963
Calculations of the contributions of the intermolecular potential to the microscopic stress tensor, T/sub ij/, in the correlation-function expression for shear viscosity, in transport theory, are made. An expression for the viscosity of a gas of classical hard spheres is derived. (L.B.S.)

Kinematically Moderately Nonlinear Theory

2013
The derivation of the kinematics of the kinematically moderately nonlinear case follows exactly the same line, we will not redo that part of the foundation.

Theory of Moderately Concentrated Polymer Solutions

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1965
The transition between the theories of the thermodynamic properties of dilute and concentrated polymer solutions is investigated using the random-flight model with explicit consideration of segment—segment interactions. It begins with a qualitative discussion of the transition. Supposing the individual segments, instead of the entire polymer molecules,

Kinetic Theory of Moderately Dense, Rigid-Sphere Gases

The Physics of Fluids, 1961
By successive partial integrations of the Liouville equation, the hierarchy of BBGKY equations are obtained. The series is terminated at the second equation by the introduction of a superposition approximation. A specialization to rigid spheres is made early in the treatment.

Temporal stability as a moderator of relationships in the Theory of Planned Behaviour

British Journal of Social Psychology, 2000
Temporal stability of behavioural intentions and perceived behavioural control (PBC) within the Theory of Planned Behaviour were examined as moderators of the cognition‐behaviour relationships in two studies. Study 1 ( N =201) examined attendance at health screening appointment (infrequently ...

Applying the Discourse Theory to the Moderator’s Interferences in Web Debates

2009
This paper presents a methodology for supporting the moderation phase in DCC (Democratic Citizenship Community), a virtual community for supporting e-democratic processes in e-life systems and applications. Based on the Government-Citizen Interactive Model, the DCC encompasses an innovative debate structure, as well as the moderator’s participation ...
