Collective Excitations, Nambu-Goldstone Modes and Instability of Inhomogeneous Polariton Condensates

open access: yes, 2011
We study non-equilibrium microcavity-polariton condensates (MPCs) in a harmonic potential trap theoretically. We calculate and analyze the steady state, collective-excitation modes and instability of MPCs.

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Shape-preserving diffusion of a high-order mode

open access: yes, 2012
The close relation between the processes of paraxial diffraction and coherent diffusion is reflected in the similarity between their shape-preserving solutions, notably the Gaussian modes.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

On modes, metafunctions, and communicative acts: A Systemic-functional Multimodal Analysis of Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1’s publication materials [PDF]

open access: yesAsian Journal of English Language Studies (AJELS), 2018
One of the observable ways the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) uses to ensure order and safety inside the LRT premises is through its publication materials at the entrances and platforms of each station, and inside the train wagons.

Edge modes without edge modes

open access: yes, 2021
We discuss gauge theories of the Yang-Mills kind in finite regions with boundaries, and in particular the definition of the corresponding quasi-local degrees of freedom and their gluing upon composition of the underlying regions. Although the most of the technical results presented here has appeared in previous works by Gomes, Hopfm ller and the ...

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

Integration of circadian and hypoxia signaling via non‐canonical heterodimerization

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CLOCK, BMAL1, and HIFs are basic helix‐loop‐helix and Per‐Arnt‐Sim domain (bHLH‐PAS) proteins, which function as transcription factors. bHLH‐PAS proteins are designated in two classes. Many class I proteins are regulated by environmental signals via their PAS domains, but such signals have not been identified for all.

Substrate specificity of Burkholderia pseudomallei multidrug transporters is influenced by the hydrophilic patch in the substrate‐binding pocket

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Multidrug transporters BpeB and BpeF from the Gram‐negative pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei have a hydrophilic patch in their substrate‐binding pocket. Drug susceptibility tests and growth curve analyses using an Escherichia coli recombinant expression system revealed that the hydrophilic patches of BpeB and BpeF are involved in the substrate ...
