Remote Sensing‐Based Identification of Habitat Loss for Herbivorous Waterbirds Driven by Wetland Inundation Alterations

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
We present a deep learning framework integrating remote sensing and SHAP interpretation to map 22‐year habitat dynamics of herbivorous waterbirds in Dongting Lake. Results show nearly 50% habitat loss, driven primarily by hydrological recession timing rather than static inundation extent.

Integrated assessment of meteorological drought impacts on terrestrial water storage and vegetation dynamics in East Africa

open access: yesRiver, EarlyView.
Abstract Water is essential for life, and effective hydrological management is crucial for economic stability and quality of life. Poor water resource governance can lead to scarcity, displacement, or even fatal consequences. Hydrological conditions in East Africa are influenced by drivers such as demographic expansion, industrialization, droughts, and

AI‐Powered GPR Characterization of Peatland Underground Cavity Induced by Smoldering Wildfire: A Laboratory Proof‐of‐Concept

open access: yesSafety Science and Technology, EarlyView.
We present an AI‐assisted ground‐penetrating radar framework to noninvasively detect and quantify smoldering wildfire‐induced subsurface cavities in peatlands. A ResNet model accurately predicts cavity geometry from GPR images, enabling improved assessment of underground fire damage and hazards.
