Are Radio Pulsars Strange Stars ?

open access: yes, 2001
A remarkably precise observational relation for pulse core component widths of radio pulsars is used to derive stringent limits on pulsar radii, strongly indicating that pulsars are strange stars rather than neutron stars.

A framework for capturing indirect impacts in site‐level screening for biodiversity risks

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Site‐based industrial operations such as mining, oil and gas extraction and renewable energy development are associated with many direct and indirect impacts on biodiversity. Consideration of the full range of these impacts when selecting a buffer distance to approximate the Area of Influence (AoI) of a project is critical for effective ...

CLEAR Thrombectomy Score: An Index to Estimate the Probability of Good Functional Outcome With or Without Endovascular Treatment in the Late Window for Anterior Circulation Occlusion

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background With the expanding eligibility for endovascular therapy (EVT) of patients presenting in the late window (6–24 hours after last known well), we aimed to derive a score to predict favorable outcomes associated with EVT versus best medical ...

Extracellular vesicle proteomics identifies novel blood biomarkers for the early diagnosis of status epilepticus

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to identify novel blood‐based biomarkers associated with the early diagnosis of status epilepticus (SE) by exploring proteomic alterations in plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs). Methods We conducted an observational and prospective study in a two‐phase design: a discovery proteomic analysis of plasma EVs ...

Associations of Soluble Serum Stimulation‐2 With Functional Outcomes and Death at 1 Year in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background Elevated sST2 (soluble serum stimulation‐2) has been associated with poor 90‐day outcomes of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We aimed to investigate the associations between baseline serum sST2 level and 1‐year outcomes in patients ...

Dynamics of early electroencephalographic patterns and epileptic seizures in acute intracerebral hemorrhage: A prospective controlled study

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Acute symptomatic seizures (ASyS) occur in up to 30% of patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) when continuous electroencephalography (cEEG) is used, potentially worsening outcomes. Identification of early EEG biomarkers of ASyS may help guide personalized antiseizure medication (ASM) prophylaxis.

Persistent headache after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: Prevalence, characteristics, and migraine history as a prognostic factor

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives/Background Persistent headache (PH) after an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) and the influence of migraine history (MH) on its evolution and prognosis is poorly understood. Our study aims are to (1) determine the prevalence, characteristics, and prognostic factors of PH after aSAH; and (2) study the impact of personal MH ...
