Cryo-MMC - a Modular Multilevel Converter with Superconducting Coupled Arm Coils

In this thesis, we study a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) with high temperature superconducting (HTS) directly-coupled arm coils that we proposed to call cryo-MMC. We design directly-coupled HTS arm coils and their cooling system for a cryo-MMC in a point-to-point high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) link rated at ±320 kV and 1 GW.
