Elimination of low frequency harmonics of modular multilevel converters (MMC): Implications to MMC HVDC and STATCOM

Based on pin-pointing the theoretical origin, the second harmonic current in MMC is eliminated at the source and, with it, the low frequency harmonics which proliferate from it. The implications of the elimination to MMC HVDC and MMC STATCOM are discussed.
