The moduli space of noncommutative vortices [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2003
The Abelian Higgs model on the noncommutative plane admits both BPS vortices and non-BPS fluxons. After reviewing the properties of these solitons, we discuss several new aspects of the former. We solve the Bogomoln’yi equations perturbatively, to all orders in the inverse noncommutivity parameter, and show that the metric on the moduli space of k ...

Volume of Vortex Moduli Spaces [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 1999
A gas of $N$ Bogomol'nyi vortices in the Abelian Higgs model is studied on a compact Riemann surface of genus $g$ and area $A$. The volume of the moduli space is computed and found to depend on $N, g$ and $A$, but not on other details of the shape of the surface.

Vortices, Instantons and Branes

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this paper is to describe a relationship between the moduli space of vortices and the moduli space of instantons. We study charge k vortices in U(N) Yang-Mills-Higgs theories and show that the moduli space is isomorphic to a special ...

M-Theory Moduli Space and Cosmology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We conduct a systematic search for a viable string/M-theory cosmology, focusing on cosmologies that include an era of slow-roll inflation, after which the moduli are stabilized and the Universe is in a state with an acceptably small cosmological constant.

New moduli for Banach spaces [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Functional Analysis, 2017
Modifying the moduli of supporting convexity and supporting smoothness, we introduce new moduli for Banach spaces which occur, e.g., as lengths of catheti of right-angled triangles (defined via so-called quasi-orthogonality). These triangles have two boundary points of the unit ball of a Banach space as endpoints of their hypotenuse, and their third ...

Representations of the fundamental group of a surface in PU(p,q) and holomorphic triples

open access: yes, 2001
We count the connected components in the moduli space of PU(p,q)-representations of the fundamental group for a closed oriented surface. The components are labelled by pairs of integers which arise as topological invariants of the flat bundles associated

Decorating asymptotically flat space-time with the moduli space of string theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
N = 2, 4 and 8 supersymmetric string theories in four dimensional flat space-time have moduli space of vacua. We argue that starting from a theory where the moduli approach a particular moduli space point A at infinity, we can construct a classical ...

On the fine Simpson moduli spaces of 1-dimensional sheaves supported on plane quartics

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2018
A parametrization of the fine Simpson moduli spaces of 1-dimensional sheaves supported on plane quartics is given: we describe the gluing of the Brill-Noether loci described by Drézet and Maican, provide a common parameter space for these loci, and show ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

To the cusp and back: resurgent analysis for modular graph functions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
Modular graph functions arise in the calculation of the low-energy expansion of closed-string scattering amplitudes. For toroidal world-sheets, they are SL(2, ℤ)-invariant functions of the torus complex structure that have to be integrated over the ...
