Low‐Activation Compositionally Complex Alloys for Advanced Nuclear Applications—A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐activation compositionally complex alloys (LACCAs) are advanced metallic materials primarily composed of low‐activation elements, offering advantages such as rapid compliance with operational standards and safe recyclability. This review highlights their potential for extreme high‐temperature irradiation environments as structural materials for ...

Flat monodromies and a Moduli Space Size Conjecture

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We investigate how super-Planckian axions can arise when type IIB 3-form flux is used to restrict a two-axion field space to a one-dimensional winding trajectory.

The tropicalization of the moduli space of curves [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales scientifiques de l'École normale supérieure, 2015
We show that the skeleton of the Deligne-Mumford-Knudsen moduli stack of stable curves is naturally identified with the moduli space of extended tropical curves, and that this is compatible with the "naive" set-theoretic tropicalization map. The proof passes through general structure results on the skeleton of a toroidal Deligne-Mumford stack ...

The moduli space of the tropicalizations of Riemann surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In this paper we study the moduli space of the tropicalizations of Riemann surfaces. We first tropicalize a smooth pointed Riemann surface by a graph defined by its (hyperbolic) pair of pants decomposition. Then we can construct the moduli space of tropicalizations based on a fixed regular tropicalization, and compactify it by adding strata ...

Large‐Scale Interlaboratory Study Along the Entire Process Chain of Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Bridging Variability, Standards, and Optimization across Metals and Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
What happens when 32 labs join forces to study nanoparticle‐modified powders? A data‐driven journey through laser powder bed fusion—now openly accessible for the entire additive manufacturing community—is studied. Laser powder bed fusion is a cornerstone technology for additive manufacturing (AM) of metals and polymers, yet challenges in achieving ...

Universal moduli spaces of vector bundles and the log-minimal model program on the moduli of curves [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Recent work on the log minimal model program for the moduli space of curves, as well as past results of Caporaso, Pandharipande, and Simpson motivate an investigation of compactifications of the universal moduli space of slope semi-stable vector bundles over moduli spaces of curves arising in the Hassett-Keel program.

Laser Additive Manufacturing of Oxide‐Dispersion‐Strengthened Steels: A Simulation‐Based Comparison Between Powder Bed Fusion and Direct Energy Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the size and distribution of dispersoids is essential for optimizing the performance of oxide‐dispersion‐strengthened steels. This study focuses on nanoparticle dispersion and agglomeration during laser additive manufacturing of Fe20Cr alloy reinforced with ZrO 2 nanoparticles. Utilizing multiphysics phase‐field simulations and nanoparticle

Some notes on the moduli of stable sheaves on elliptic surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1997
Under some assumptions, we compute the Picard group of moduli of stable sheaves on Abelian surfaces. Considering relative moduli spaces, it is sufficient to consider the moduli of stable sheaves on the product of elliptic curves. By using elementary transformatios (which was used by Friedman to treat rank 2 moduli spaces on elliptic surfaces), we treat

Shape Memory Polymer‐Based Hook‐and‐Loop Fastener for Robust Bonding and on‐Demand Easy Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D shape memory polymer‐based hook‐and‐loop fastener, fabricated using projection microstereolithography and molding, offers tunable bonding strength through temperature control. When heated from 25 to 70 °C, the fastener softens and deforms easily, reducing bonding strength by 20‐fold for on‐demand easy separation.

The Nonlinear Visco‐Hyperelastic Damage Mechanics of Individual Electrospun Polycaprolactone Fibers: Experiments and Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the complex mechanics of individual electrospun polycaprolactone fibers under small and large strains. Combining experiments with a visco‐hyperelastic damage model, this work reveals and quantifies these fibers’ nonlinear behavior, including strain‐stiffening, viscoelasticity, and damage.
