Physical, Thermal, and Mechanical Characterization of PMMA Foils Fabricated by Solution Casting
The physical, thermal, structural, and mechanical properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) PMMA foils cast from solutions of toluene were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, optical microscope, Fourier infrared spectroscopy, and dynamical ...

Descent modulus and applications [PDF]
The norm of the gradient $\nabla$f (x) measures the maximum descent of a real-valued smooth function f at x. For (nonsmooth) convex functions, this is expressed by the distance dist(0, $\partial$f (x)) of the subdifferential to the origin, while for general real-valued functions defined on metric spaces by the notion of metric slope |$\nabla$f |(x). In

Enhancing the Out-of-Plane Compressive Performance of Lightweight Polymer Foam Core Sandwiches
This study investigates the flatwise compressive performance of the developed sandwiches with core stitching modification. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam cores with a density of 0.048 g/cm3 were stitched with 600-tex glass fiber yarns.

Modulus stabilization in the multiple-modulus framework
In a class of modular-invariant models with multiple moduli fields, the viable lepton flavor mixing pattern can be realized if the values of moduli are selected to be at the fixed points. In this paper, we investigate a modulus stabilization mechanism in the multiple-modulus framework which is capable of providing de Sitter (dS) minima precisely at the

Elastic Bending Modulus for Single-Layer Black Phosphorus [PDF]
We derive an analytic formula for the elastic bending modulus of single-layer black phosphorus (SLBP) based on the valence force field model. The obtained elastic bending modulus is 4.8028 eV and 7.9905 eV along the armchair and zigzag directions in the SLBP, respectively. These values are obviously larger than the bending modulus of 1.4 eV in graphene

The theory and art of corneal cross-linking
Before the discovery of corneal cross-linking (CXL), patients with keratoconus would have had to undergo corneal transplantation, or wear rigid gas permeable lenses (RGPs) that would temporarily flatten the cone, thereby improving the vision.

Elastic Bending Modulus of Single-Layer Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS2): Finite Thickness Effect [PDF]
We derive, from an empirical interaction potential, an analytic formula for the elastic bending modulus of single-layer MoS2 (SLMoS2). By using this approach, we do not need to define or estimate a thickness value for SLMoS2, which is important due to the substantial controversy in defining this value for two-dimensional or ultrathin nanostructures ...

Generalized reduced modulus in Euclidean space [PDF]
In Euclidean space condensers with variable potential levels and the presence of a free part at the boundary are studied. The asymptotic formula of the modulus of such condenser is obtained when the plates are pulled into points. The generalized reduced modulus is defined as the second term of this asymptotics.

Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.
