Elastic Modulus of Polypyrrole Nanotubes
The first measurements of the tensile elastic modulus of polypyrrole nanotubes are presented. The nanotubes were mechanically tested in three points bending using atomic force microscopy. The elastic tensile modulus was deduced from force-curve measurements on different nanotubes with outer diameter ranging between 35 and 160 nm.

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

Mechanics of plant fruit hooks
Hook-like surface structures, observed in some plant species, play an important role in the process of plant growth and seed dispersal. In this study, we developed an elastic model and further used it to investigate the mechanical behaviour of fruit ...

Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Negative Energy Elasticity in a Rubberlike Gel
Rubber elasticity is the archetype of the entropic force emerging from the second law of thermodynamics; numerous experimental and theoretical studies on natural and synthetic rubbers have shown that the elasticity originates mostly from entropy change ...

An area modulus of elasticity: definition and properties
A new modulus of elasticity is defined to be the ratio of an equibiaxial stress to the relative area change in the planes in which the stress acts. This area modulus of elasticity is intermediate in properties between Young's modulus and the bulk modulus.

Some mechanical properties of plywood produced from eucalyptus, beech, and poplar veneer
In this study, we determined the flexural properties and tensile shear strength of five-ply plywood panels produced with eucalyptus (Eucalyptus grandis), beech (Fagus orientalis), and hybrid poplar (Populus x euramericana) using urea-formaldehyde (UF ...

Modelling the Effect of Graphite Morphology on the Modulus of Elasticity in Cast Irons
Nine grades of pearlitic cast iron containing different graphite morphologies (from flake, compacted and spheroidal) have been studied. The parameters investigated include the graphite aspect ratio, nodularity, graphite size and modulus of elasticity ...

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...
