Effects of structural heterogeneity provided by the floating macrophyte Eichhornia azurea on the predation efficiency and habitat use of the small Neotropical fish Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae

Hydrobiologia, 2009
Macrophytes have a fundamental structuring role in aquatic environments. Several authors have suggested that trophic interactions are particularly mediated by aquatic plants. In the current article, we evaluated the effects of the structural heterogeneity provided by Eichhornia azurea (Kunth) roots on predation and habitat use by the small fish ...

Cryptosporidium abrahamseni n. sp. (Apicomplexa: Cryptosporidiiae) from red-eye tetra (Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae)

Experimental Parasitology, 2021
The morphological, biological, and molecular characterisation of Cryptosporidium piscine genotype 7 from red-eye tetras (Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae) are described, and the species name Cryptosporidium abrahamseni n. sp. is proposed. Histological analysis of intestinal tissue identified large numbers of Cryptosporidium organisms along the epithelial ...

New occurrence of microchromosomes B in Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae (Pisces, Characidae) from the Paraná River of Brazil: analysis of the synaptonemal complex

Genetica, 2000
The Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae specimens showed a karyotype consisting of 2n = 50 chromosomes with 12 metacentrics, 36 submetacentrics and two subtelocentrics. In addition to the basic karyotype, all the males specimens have cells ranging from zero to two B microchromosomes in mitotic metaphases.
