The Use of Methanol Vapour for Effective Drying of Cellulose Insulation

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
The paper deals with a new method of drying cellulose insulation, which uses methanol vapour present in nitrogen as a drying medium. Compared to the insulation drying methods currently used in the industry, the method presented in the article has the ...

Transpiration and moisture evolution in packaged fresh horticultural produce and the role of integrated mathematical models: A review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Transpiration has various adverse effects on postharvest quality and the shelf-life of fresh fruit and vegetables (FFV). If not controlled, the water released through this process results in direct mass loss and moisture condensation inside packaged FFV.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Raman micro-spectroscopy of two types of acetylated Norway spruce wood at controlled relative humidity

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Water is a key element for wood performance, as water molecules interact with the wood structure and affect important material characteristics such as mechanical properties and durability.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Stochastic Rainfall-runoff Model with Explicit Soil Moisture Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Stream runoff is perhaps the most poorly represented process in ecohydrological stochastic soil moisture models. Here we present a rainfall-runoff model with a new stochastic description of runoff linked to soil moisture dynamics.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

The influence of storing mineral wool on its thermal conductivity in an open space

open access: yesOpen Engineering
In engineering practice, a common problem is the lack of space on the construction site for the proper storage of building materials. The consequence of this is that building materials are stored in open spaces, where they are exposed to external ...
