Random migration of moisture in composite materials
Journal of Engineering Physics, 1990The mathematical description of the migration of moisture in composites based on a Markov random process is analyzed. The physical aspect of the model is revealed by means of x-ray computational tomography. An expression is obtained for the pore-tortuosity coefficient.

Experimental Investigation of Moisture Migration in Concrete
2001The ability to be able to predict the state of dryness of a concrete floor slab is a practical need in the construction industry. Current popular methods, including the surface hygrometer and vapour emission tests, only indicate surface dryness, with consequent uncertainties in the quantity of residual moisture deep within the slab.

Prevention of moisture migration in coated biscuit
Journal of Food Engineering, 1994Abstract Moisture migration in a newly developed product called fondant coated biscuit makes the biscuit soggy. A suitable continuous drying method was developed to make the biscuit attain the crispness of uncoated biscuits. Moisture sorption isotherms were obtained for fondant, biscuit and fondant coated biscuit separately to establish the stable ...

A model of migration potential for moisture migration during soil freezing
Cold Regions Science and Technology, 2016Abstract Frost heave is attributed to water migration to the freezing front and the ice lens develops. Therefore, evaluation of frost heave requires the determination of the water migration in the freezing process. In order to predict the water migration in freezing soil, a water migration model which introduced the concept of migration potential (MP)

Moisture Migration in Concrete Slabs during Drying [PDF]
This paper presents the profiles of relative humidity (RH) readings taken at various depths in concrete slabs during a time period of over 230 days using probes attached to a humidity-reading device. It also examines the effect ambient conditions have on the drying process.

Estimation of moisture migration in rammed earth based on entropy theory
Applied Optics, 2021In the field of cultural relic protection, the migration of moisture will cause a series of adverse effects, such as disruption and crater eruption. Assessment of water migration status is the key to early warning and prevention of these problems. In an attempt for a solution, the whole process of moisture migration in rammed earth is studied by using ...

Centrifuge Modeling of Moisture Migration in Silty Soils
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2000An effort has been made to demonstrate use of a small geotechnical centrifuge as a research tool to understand moisture migration in a silty soil. Such a basic study is essential for understanding the much more complex phenomenon of solute transport through a soil, where the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil-solute system play ...

Moisture Migration through Basement Walls
Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, 1994Water can migrate through basement walls due to hydrostatic pressure, capillary action, and vapor pressure. The purpose of this paper is to describe a case history of moisture migration through basement walls at a condominium project. The results of subsurface exploration revealed that the upper 0.4–0.5 m of the basement wall did not have a ...

The Moisture Migration Behavior of Plasticized Starch Biopolymer
Drying Technology, 2011Using plasticized starch pellets as a precursor for making thermoformed products is a commercially viable and profitable idea. However, drying of plasticized starch is quite complex in nature, partly due to the synergistic interactions between starch and plasticizers in the presence of water.

Thermal drying dehydration and moisture migration in anthracite
Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2017ABSTRACTTo improve the quality of anthracite disposed by fracturing technology, the dehydration characteristics of anthracite were studied experimentally. The influences of temperature and particle size were investigated. The results show that the drying temperature has significant effects on water loss rate.
