Moisture susceptibility of high and low compaction dry process crumb rubber modified asphalt mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The field performance of dry process crumb rubber-modified (CRM) asphalt mixtures has been reported to be inconsistent with stripping and premature cracking on the surfacing. One of the concerns is that, because achieving field compaction of CRM material

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

Transport-constrained eddy–mean energetics sustain extreme rainfall over China

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Extreme summer rainfall over China has intensified in recent decades, yet the processes that organize moisture transport and sustain extreme ascent remain unclear. Here we show that these roles are dynamically distinct.

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Eastern US precipitation investigated through patterns of moisture transport

open access: yes, 2022
This paper examines precipitation associated with large-scale patterns of water vapor transport in the eastern United States. Daily 4 km gridded precipitation from PRISM (1981–2017) is sorted into a subset according to previously defined patterns of ...

Reconstructions of Great Plains low-level jet wind and moisture transport indicate a complex mix of Atlantic and Pacific influences over the past 300 years

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Climate
The Great Plains low-level jet (GPLLJ) plays a critical role in transporting moisture into the central United States and has been linked to floods and droughts. Here, we use tree-ring records to separately reconstruct both the wind and moisture transport

The transport of moisture into the antarctic interior

open access: yesTellus A: Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 1969
The magnitude of the moisture transport by the atmosphere into the Antarctic interior is determined from a mass transport model which allows a longitudinal variation in the annual flux values. It is indicated that the use of monthly mean transport and temperature values underestimates the annual moisture transport required by observed accumulation ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.
