Triacylglycerols Characteristic of Porpoise Acoustic Tissues: Molecular Structures of Diisovaleroylglycerides

Science, 1972
More than two-thirds of the triacylglycerols from the acoustic tissues of the porpoise ( Tursiops gilli ) consist of 2 moles of isovaleric acid for every 1 mole of long-chain acids. Cranial blubber, which has no distinct acoustic function, does not contain these unusual glycerides.

Molecular basis of the acoustic properties of polyurethanes

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1987
The acoustic properties of polyurethanes as a function of frequency are dominated by a very broad relaxation process in which the polymer makes a transition from the rubbery to the glassy state. It is convenient to use an analytic representation of the data that expresses the complex shear modulus in the form G* = G∞ − (G∞ − G0)/[1 + (iωτ)α], where G0 ...

Treatment of Acute Acoustic Trauma with Low Molecular Weight Dextran

ORL, 1971
Ten workers struck by the same blast of an explosion were selected for a comparative study: 5 patients were treated with low molecular weight dextran, 5 patients were left without treatment. Recovery from the inner ear damage, measured by the restoration of hearing losses (bone conduction threshold), proved significantly better in the treated group ...

Dual output acoustic wave sensors for molecular identification

TRANSDUCERS '91: 1991 International Conference on Solid-State Sensors and Actuators. Digest of Technical Papers, 2002
It is pointed out that online chemical monitoring systems can help ensure safe, environmentally sound operation of industrial processes using hazardous chemicals. Using polymer-coated surface acoustic wave sensors, the authors have demonstrated monitors that are capable of detecting dilute concentrations of volatile organic species.

Molecular recognition on acoustic wave devices: Zeolite thin films coated with organosilane gate layers

Microporous Materials, 1993
Microporous thin films composed of a molecular coupling layer, zeolite crystals, and a porous silica overlayer, were formed on the gold electrodes of quartz crystal microbalances (QCMs). The silica overlayer enhances the mechanical stability of the zeolite films, and results in additional surface area and porosity as characterized by the sorption ...

Acoustic response of cemented granular sedimentary rocks: Molecular dynamics modeling

Physical Review E, 2007
The effect of cementation processes on the acoustical properties of sands is studied via molecular dynamics simulation methods. We propose numerical methods where the initial uncemented sand is built by simulating the settling process of sediments. Uncemented samples of different porosity are considered by emulating natural mechanical compaction of ...

Molecular Recognition on Acoustic Wave Devices: Modified Zeolite-Silica Thin Films With Tailored Adsorption Properties

MRS Proceedings, 1992
ABSTRACTMicroporous thin films composed either of zeolite crystals embedded in sol-gel derived glass or of a molecular coupling layer, zeolite crystals and a porous silica overlayer, were formed on the gold electrodes of Quartz Crystal Microbalances (QCM).

Molecular phylogenetics of Doraditos (Aves, Pseudocolopteryx): Evolution of cryptic species, vocal and mechanical sounds

, 2020
While bird vocalizations (produced by the syrinx) have been the focus of countless studies, mechanical sounds (produced by external body structures) have received much less attention.
