Molecular evolution of proglucagon
Regulatory Peptides, 2001The vertebrate proglucagon gene encodes glucagon, and the two glucagon-like peptides GLP-1 and GLP-2. To better understand the origin and diversification of the distinct hormonal roles of the three glucagon-like sequences encoded by the proglucagon gene, we have examined the evolution of this gene.

Molecular Evolution of Influenza Viruses
Virus Genes, 1995There are two different mechanisms by which influenza viruses might evolve: (1) Because the RNA genome of influenza viruses is segmented, new strains can suddenly be produced by reassortment, as happens, for example, during antigenic shift, creating new pandemic strains.
