Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

12mm line survey of the dense molecular gas towards the W28 field TeV gamma-ray sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present 12mm Mopra observations of dense molecular gas towards the W28 supernova remnant (SNR) field. The focus is on the dense molecular gas towards the TeV gamma-ray sources detected by the H.E.S.S. telescopes, which likely trace the cosmic-rays from W28 and possibly other sources in the region.

Inverse Measurements in Active Nematics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We present a framework to take new measurements in nematic systems that contain active elements such as molecular motors. Spatio-temporal fields of stress, traction, velocity, pressure, and forces are estimated jointly from microscopy images alone. Our inverse-problem approach ensures that these fields comply with physical laws and are accurate at ...

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Amplification without inversion, fast light and optical bistability in a duplicated two-level system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The optical properties of a weak probe field in a duplicated two-level system are investigated in multiphoton resonance (MPR) condition and beyond it. It is shown that, by changing the relative phase of applied fields, the absorption switches to the amplification without inversion in MPR condition.

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Visualization of atomic structure using AFM: theoretical description [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Low-Dim. Struct. (2002), 5/6, pp.7-12, 2011
We suggest simple model of image formation in atomic force microscope (AFM) taking into account contact deformations of probe and sample during scanning. The model explains the possibility of AFM visualization of regular atomic or molecular structure when probe-sample contact area is greater than an area per atom or molecule in surface lattice.

The Metallicity Dependence of the HI Shielding Layers in Nearby Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We investigate the metallicity dependence of HI surface densities in star-forming regions along many lines of sight within 70 nearby galaxies, probing kpc to 50 pc scales. We employ HI, SFR, stellar mass, and metallicity (gradient) measurements from the literature, spanning a wide range (5 dex) in stellar and gas mass and (1.6 dex) in metallicity.

Expression and purification of E140 protein antigen fragments of Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium berghei for serological assays

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We provide a step‐by‐step guide for producing E140 antigen fragments from Plasmodium berghei (Pb1) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv1). Pb1/Pv1 are expressed in E. coli, solubilized by freeze–thawing, refolded by slow dilution, purified by affinity chromatography (IMAC), then concentrated and subjected to quality control.

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.
