Ability to Generate Patient-Derived Breast Cancer Xenografts Is Enhanced in Chemoresistant Disease and Predicts Poor Patient Outcomes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Breast cancer patients who are resistant to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NeoCT) have a poor prognosis. There is a pressing need to develop in vivo models of chemo resistant tumors to test novel therapeutics.

Flow‐based immunomagnetic enrichment of circulating tumor cells from diagnostic leukapheresis product

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The number of circulating tumor cells obtained from prostate cancer patients was increased approximately 5‐fold compared to regular CellSearch when processing 2 mL diagnostic leukapheresis material aliquots and increased by 44‐fold when processing 20 mL DLA aliquots using the flow enrichment target capture Halbach‐array.

Comprehensive routine diagnostic screening to identify predictive mutations, gene amplifications, and microsatellite instability in FFPE tumor material

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2020
Background Sensitive and reliable molecular diagnostics is needed to guide therapeutic decisions for cancer patients. Although less material becomes available for testing, genetic markers are rapidly expanding.

Subpar reporting of pre‐analytical variables in RNA‐focused blood plasma studies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical variables strongly influence the analysis of extracellular RNA (cell‐free RNA; exRNA) derived from blood plasma. Their reporting is essential to allow interpretation and replication of results. By evaluating 200 exRNA studies, we pinpoint a lack of reporting pre‐analytical variables associated with blood collection, plasma preparation ...

Identification of functional and diverse circulating cancer‐associated fibroblasts in metastatic castration‐naïve prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...

No significantly increased frequency of the inversion polymorphism at the WBS-critical region 7q11.23 in German parents of patients with Williams-Beuren syndrome as compared to a population control

open access: yesMolecular Cytogenetics, 2010
Background Typical Williams-Beuren syndrome (WBS) is commonly caused by a ~1.5 Mb - ~1.8 Mb heterozygous deletion of contiguous genes at chromosome region 7q11.23. The majority of WBS cases occurs sporadically but few familial cases of autosomal dominant

Tunable inverse topological heterostructure utilizing $(Bi_{1-x}In_{x})_{2}Se_{3}$ [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 93, 125416 (2016), 2016
In typical topological insulator (TI) systems the TI is bordered by a non-TI insulator, and the surrounding conventional insulators, including vacuum, are not generally treated as part of the TI system. Here, we implement the first material system where the roles are reversed, and the TSS form around the non-TI (instead of the TI) layers.

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Phosphorus Chemistry at the Roots of Bioenergetics: Ligand Permutation as the Molecular Basis of the Mechanism of ATP Synthesis/Hydrolysis by FOF1-ATP Synthase

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
The integration of phosphorus chemistry with the mechanism of ATP synthesis/hydrolysis requires dynamical information during ATP turnover and catalysis. Oxygen exchange reactions occurring at β-catalytic sites of the FOF1-ATP synthase/F1-ATPase imprint a
