Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Atomistic characterization of the active-site solvation dynamics of a model photocatalyst

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Interactions between reactive excited states of molecular photocatalysts and surrounding solvent can dictate reaction pathways, but are not readily accessible to conventional spectroscopic methods. Here the authors use diffuse X-ray scattering and theory

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Theoretical Insights into the Molecular Interaction in Li-Ion Battery Electrolytes from the Perspective of the Dielectric Continuum Solvation Model

open access: yesCrystals
Rational electrolyte design stands as a frontier in the research and development of Li-ion batteries. Nevertheless, detailed investigations about the influence of the dielectric continuum solvation model on molecular interactions are still limited ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Computing the aqueous solubility of organic drug-like molecules and understanding hydrophobicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This thesis covers a range of methodologies to provide an account of the current (2010-2014) state of the art and to develop new methods for solubility prediction.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Ion solvation in aqueous-organic mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The importance of ion solvation in determining the properties of electrolyte solutions in aqueous-organic solvent mixtures is discussed. Solubility measurements are shown to be particularly useful for determining the Gibbs energies of transfer of ions ...

Effects of molecular size in solvation dynamics

open access: yes, 1990
The effects of molecular size on the dynamics of polar solvation are studied by using a microscopic theory which includes the translational relaxation modes of the solvent consistently.
