Eighteen Years of Human Rhinovirus Surveillance in the Republic of Korea (2007–2024): Age- and Season-Specific Trends from a Single-Center Study with Public Health Implications

open access: yesPathogens
Human rhinovirus (HRV) is the most common cause of upper respiratory tract infections and can cause substantial morbidity in children. Because its clinical features are nonspecific, differentiation from influenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus is ...

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Prevalence and Distribution of Antimicrobial Resistance-Associated Mutations in Mycoplasma genitalium Identified Through Routine Molecular Diagnostics in Korea

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Mycoplasma genitalium is a significant sexually transmitted pathogen, and its clinical management is increasingly complicated by the global distribution of mutations associated with macrolide and fluoroquinolone resistance.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Weekly Influenza Surveillance Report Week 43 2003 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
GP consultations rates for influenza-like illness increased during week 43 in Ireland. Influenza activity levels are higher than previously recorded for this time of year (the influenza surveillance scheme began in October 2000).

Surveillance Hegemony

open access: yes, 2015
The National Security Agency activity disclosed by Edward Snowden plugs into a larger information ecology made possible by U.S. surveillance hegemony. While the revelations of the NSA’s international spying ambitions have astonished, there is more to U.S.

Regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1 by p53‐ΔNp63 crosstalk modulates the DNA damage response and therapeutic efficacy in HNSCC

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) p53 and p63 exert opposite roles on the transcription regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1. Under basal conditions, p53 levels are low and p63 represses NEAT1 expression. Upon genotoxic stress, p53 is rapidly induced, displacing p63 from the NEAT1 promoter leading to NEAT1 transcriptional activation and ...
