Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Versatile Control System for Automated Single-Molecule Optical Tweezers Investigations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present a versatile control system to automate single-molecule biophysics experiments. This method combines low-level controls into various functional, user-configurable modules, which can be scripted in a domain-specific instruction language.

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

ANNalog — Generation of MedChem-similar Molecules

open access: yesJournal of Cheminformatics
Generative deep-learning models have demonstrated significant potential in designing drug-like molecules. However, medicinal chemistry typically requires generating analogues that combine structural similarity with scaffold hopping—the replacement of molecular scaffolds while retaining biological relevance.

development of a Free-Piston Linear Generator for use in an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents the development methodology of the Free-Piston Linear Generator. The FPLG is a free-piston combustion engine with an integrated linear generator. The engine can be used as a range-extending device in an electric vehicle.

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.
