A variational technique of mollification applied to backward heat conduction problems

open access: yesApplied Mathematics and Computation, 2023
This paper addresses a backward heat conduction problem with fractional Laplacian and time-dependent coefficient in an unbounded domain. The problem models generalized diffusion processes and is well-known to be severely ill-posed. We investigate a simple and powerful variational regularization technique based on mollification.

Tough, Ductile, and Strong Hard‐Soft Cementitious Composite Enabled by Multi‐Material Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Drawing inspiration from the layered hard‐soft architecture found in sea sponges, this work establishes a new framework for architected cementitious composites (ACC) through multi‐material additive manufacturing (MMAM) process. The integration of mortar and elastomer phases into layered architectures enables synergistic toughening mechanisms, including

Measuring and Manipulating Density of States in Two‐Dimensional Materials With Electrochemical Capacitance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We report electrochemical quantum capacitance spectroscopy as an ambient, in situ probe for defect‐mediated electronic structure at 2D material interfaces. Using monolayer MoS2, the method resolves band edges and vacancy states, tracks sulfur‐vacancy evolution during hydrogen evolution, and links interfacial density‐of‐states changes to nearly ...

Developing a Functional Polyelectrolyte Hybrid Layer Scaffold Coating and Evaluation of Its Performance for Interaction With Neural Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Polyelectrolyte scaffold coatings modified with Cu and Fe3O4 nanoparticles regulate neural stem cell behavior in vitro. Increased Fe3O4 content enhances mitochondrial activity and neuronal differentiation, whereas higher Cu levels reduce cell viability.

Automatic numerical differentiation by discrete mollification

open access: yesComputers & Mathematics with Applications, 1987
The author gives a method to estimate the derivative based on attempting to reconstruct a modified version of the derivative. This approach was first introduced by \textit{V. V. Vasin} [Zh. Vychisl. Mat. Mat. Fiz. 13, 1383-1389 (1973; Zbl 0306.65007)].

Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Mediated Intercellular Communication: Mapping the Interactome for Skeletal Muscle Homeostasis and Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liu et al. define a systems‐level interactome of fibroadipogenic progenitor (FAP)‐mediated signaling in skeletal muscle by integrating single‐cell transcriptomics with FAP depletion‐based perturbation analysis. Functional interrogation using a conditioned media bioassay links predicted signaling to multicellular outcomes, establishing a framework to ...

Robust Classification by Coupling Data Mollification with Label Smoothing

open access: yesCoRR
Introducing training-time augmentations is a key technique to enhance generalization and prepare deep neural networks against test-time corruptions. Inspired by the success of generative diffusion models, we propose a novel approach of coupling data mollification, in the form of image noising and blurring, with label smoothing to align predicted label ...
