Molluscs from a shallow-water whale-fall and their affinities with adjacent benthic communities on the Swedish west coast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We conducted a species-level study of molluscs associated with a 5-m long carcass of a minke whale at a depth of 125 m in the Kosterfjord (North Sea, Sweden).

Review of the RNA Interference Pathway in Molluscs Including Some Possibilities for Use in Bivalves in Aquaculture

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2015
Generalised reviews of RNA interference (RNAi) in invertebrates, and for use in aquaculture, have taken for granted that RNAi pathways operate in molluscs, but inspection of such reviews show little specific evidence of such activity in molluscs.

Born With Bristles: New Insights on the Kölliker’s Organs of Octopus Skin

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
The entire skin surface of octopus embryos, hatchlings and juveniles bears scattered tufts of tiny chitinous setae within small pockets, from which they can be everted and retracted.

Intersex related gene expression profiles in clams Scrobicularia plana : molecular markers and environmental application [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Intersex, the appearance of female characteristics in male gonads, has been identified in several aquatic species. It is a widespread phenomenon in populations of the bivalve, Scrobicularia plana, from the southwest coast of the U.K.

Detection of Human and Fish Viruses in Marine Gastropods

open access: yesAnimals, 2022
Marine gastropods represent a major food source for higher trophic levels and an important source of animal protein for humans. Like bivalve molluscs, gastropods can accumulate several types of contaminants; however, the bioaccumulation of microorganisms,

Expression analyses of interferon gamma, tumor necrosis factor alpha and inducible nitric oxide synthase in the hemocyte morphotypes of two commercially important Indian molluscs

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2016
Bellamya bengalensis and Lamellidens marginalis are the two common species of molluscs of Indian subcontinent which bear immense aquacultural prospect.

Endocrine disruption in wildlife: The future? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Probably the only thing that can be said with certainty about the future of this field of ecotoxicology is that predicting it is foolish; the chances of being right are very slim.

Sympatric sibling species: the case of Caloria elegans and Facelina quatrefagesi (Gastropoda: Nudibranchia)

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2016
The aeolid nudibranch Caloria elegans (Facelinidae) is quite common in the Mediterranean Sea and eastern Atlantic Ocean and is easily recognized by the presence of a typical black spot at the apical portion of its cerata.

Prenucleation Species Dictate Foreign Ion Incorporation in the Biomineral Precursor Amorphous Calcium Carbonate

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ACC forms via aggregating prenucleation clusters that gatekeep its chemical composition. Ion identity steers the path: Ba and Sr substitute Ca in clusters, thereby inhibiting nucleation, with a dose‐dependent switch of Sr to induction. Mg partitions into Mg‐rich and Mg‐poor clusters; the latter form ACC, expelling Mg.

Pannonian moluscs from site Osek-2 in Slovenske gorice, Slovenia

open access: yesGeologija, 2015
Remains of molluscs from a small outcrop at Zgornji Osek (section Osek-2) in Slovenske gorice are described. Some melanopsid gastropods and a bivalve Mytilopsis ornithopsis (Brusina, 1892) were documented.
