Abstract Chapter 18 discusses the development of molten-salt reactors (MSRs) that were initially pursued by Alvin Weinberg at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, with the first MSR becoming critical in 1954. Advantages identified for MSRs included elimination of pressurization equipment that is required for water-cooled reactors and the ...

Molten Salt Processing Of Fuels
Fall Meeting of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME, 1974American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers, Inc. Abstract Molten alkali metal carbonates are catalysts for the gasification of hydrocarbonaceous fuels with steam. The gasification temperature can be varied by changing the melt composition so that a range of products can be ...

Metallic Colloids in Molten Salts
Science, 1969Gold, silver, and silver iodide sols were prepared in mixed nitrate melts. Electron micographs of the gold and silver sols show particles smaller than 1 micron. The gold sols exhibit conventional absorption and scattering spectra. Both gold and silver sols show unusual stability.
