Stratification of singular hyperkähler quotients
Hyperkähler quotients by non-free actions are typically singular, but are nevertheless partitioned into smooth hyperkähler manifolds. We show that these partitions are topological stratifications, in a strong sense.

Nonlinear Model Reduction by Moment-Matching for a Point Absorber Wave Energy Conversion System
This paper presents a data-driven model reduction by moment-matching approach to construct control-oriented models for a point absorber device. The methodology chosen and developed generates models which are input-to-state linear, with any nonlinear ...

We introduce the symplectic structure of information geometry based on Souriau’s Lie group thermodynamics model, with a covariant definition of Gibbs equilibrium via invariances through co-adjoint action of a group on its moment space, defining physical ...

Bott-Samelson Varieties, Subword Complexes and Brick Polytopes [PDF]
Bott-Samelson varieties factor the flag variety $G/B$ into a product of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1$'s with a map into $G/B$. These varieties are mostly studied in the case in which the map into $G/B$ is birational; however in this paper we study fibers of ...

Regional parent flood frequency distributions in Europe – Part 2: Climate and scale controls [PDF]
This study aims to better understand the effect of catchment scale and climate on the statistical properties of regional flood frequency distributions. A database of L-moment ratios of annual maximum series (AMS) of peak discharges from Austria, Italy

Poincaré Inequalities and Moment Maps [PDF]
We discuss a method for obtaining Poincaré-type inequalities on arbitrary convex bodies in ℝ n . Our technique involves a dual version of Bochner’s formula and a certain moment map, and it also applies to some non-convex sets. In particular, we generalize the central limit theorem for convex bodies to a class of non-convex domains, including the unit ...

A Lie group G in a group pair (D,G), integrating a Lie algebra g in a Manin pair (d,g) has a quasi-Poisson structure. We define the quasi-Poisson actions of such Lie groups G, that generalize the Poisson actions of Poisson Lie groups. We define and study the moment maps for those quasi-Poisson actions which are quasi-hamiltonian. These moment maps take

The linearisation of maps in data assimilation [PDF]
For the purpose of linearising maps in data assimilation, the tangent-linear approximation is often used. We compare this with the use of the ‘best linear’ approximation, which is the linear map that minimises the mean square error.

Assignments and abstract moment maps [PDF]
moment maps arise as a generalization of genuine moment maps on symplectic manifolds when the symplectic structure is discarded, but the relation between the mapping and the action is kept. Particular examples of abstract moment maps had been used in Hamiltonian mechanics for some time, but the abstract notion originated in the study of cobordisms of ...
