Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Experimental Research of Continuous Concrete Beams with GFRP Reinforcement

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
Continuous beams are often used within RC structures, which are exposed to aggressive environmental impact. The use of the fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement in these objects and environments has a big significance, taking into account tendency

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

On Floating-Based System’s Center of Mass Shifting for Physical Interaction: A Case Study in Aerial Robotics

open access: yesAerospace
Floating-base robotic systems rely critically on their inertial geometry to maintain stability and regulate interaction forces in the absence of fixed ground constraints.

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Plastic Properties of Prestressed High-Strength Steel Reinforced Concrete Continuous Beams

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In this paper, the plastic properties of prestressed high-strength steel reinforced concrete (PHSSRC) beams are studied, by performing static load tests on eight built-in Q460 and Q690 prestressed high-strength steel reinforced concrete continuous beams ...

Numerical analysis of progressive collapse for reinforced concrete frames

open access: yesApplied and Computational Mechanics, 2019
This research investigates numerically the potential failure of different framed structures after removal of a corner column. This study is directed towards the role of the joint above the removed column in terms of framed structures stability and ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

A Computational Framework for Load-Constrained Human Squat Motion with Nonlinear Joint Modeling

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Human squat motion is commonly analyzed using inverse dynamics, where joint moments are computed from experimentally measured kinematics. Such analyses typically assume that the observed motion is mechanically feasible and do not explicitly account for ...

Soil-raft foundation-structure interaction effects on seismic performance of multi-story MRF buildings

open access: yesEngineering Structures and Technologies, 2014
Recent studies show that the effects of Soil Structure Interaction (SSI) may be detrimental to the seismic response of structure and neglecting SSI in analysis may lead to un-conservative design.
