An Accurate Approximation to the Distribution of a Linear Combination of Non-Central Chi-Square Random Variables

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal, 2013
This paper provides an accessible methodology for approximating the distribution of a general linear combination of non-central chi-square random variables. Attention is focused on the main application of the results, namely the distribution of positive

Matricial Canonical Moments and Parametrization of Matricial Hausdorff Moment Sequences [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
In this paper we study moment sequences of matrix-valued measures on compact intervals. A complete parametrization of such sequences is obtained via a symmetric version of matricial canonical moments. Furthermore, distinguished extensions of finite moment sequences are characterized in this framework.

Magnetic moments of the 3/2 resonances and their quark spin structure

open access: yes, 1995
We discuss magnetic moments of the $J=3/2$ baryons based on an earlier model for the baryon magnetic moments, allowing for flavor symmetry breaking in the quark magnetic moments as well as a general quark spin structure.

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

A Generalized Skew Logistic Distribution

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal, 2013
In this paper, we introduce a generalized skew logistic distribution that contains the usual skew logistic distribution as a special case. Several mathematical properties of the distribution are discussed like the cumulative distribution function and ...

A Framework for Moment Invariants [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
For more than half a century, moments have attracted lot ot interest in the pattern recognition community. The moments of a distribution (an object) provide several of its characteristics as center of gravity, orientation, disparity, volume. Moments can be used to define invariant characteristics to some transformations that an object can undergo ...

Weibull Distribution and the multiplicity moments in $pp\,(p\bar{p})$ collisions

open access: yes, 2017
A higher moment analysis of multiplicity distribution is performed using the Weibull description of particle production in $pp\,(p\bar{p})$ collisions at SPS and LHC energies.

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...

Moments and Semi-Moments for fuzzy portfolios selection [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of this paper is to consider the moments and the semi-moments (i.e semi-kurtosis) for portfolio selection with fuzzy risk factors (i.e. trapezoidal risk factors).
