Shedding light on the parasite communities and diet of the deep-sea shark Deania profundorum (Smith & Radcliffe, 1912) (Squaliform: Centrophoridae) from the Avilés Canyon (southern Bay of Biscay). [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Biol
Abstract Deep‐sea elasmobranchs are less resilient to the increasing scale of anthropogenic impacts such as fisheries, owing to their life‐history traits. The necessity for proper management measures is hampered by the scant knowledge on these taxa and their biology. Here we provide the first comprehensive insight into the parasite infracommunities and

Albendazole is effective for controlling monogenean parasites of the gills of Piaractus brachypomus (Serrasalmidae) and Megaleporinus macrocephalus (Anostomidae)

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2022
Monogenean infestations can cause high mortality in farmed fish and therefore significant economic losses. The present study investigated the efficacy of albendazole in therapeutic baths against monogeneans of Piaractus brachypomus Cuvier, 1818 and ...

Parasite Diversity in a Freshwater Ecosystem

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Parasites are a significant component of biodiversity. They negatively affect fish appearance, growth, and reproduction. In this study, the prevalence of infection, diversity, and mean intensity of parasites were examined in 9 freshwater fish species (45
