Elastic Lennard-Jones Polymers Meet Clusters -- Differences and Similarities

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate solid-solid and solid-liquid transitions of elastic flexible off-lattice polymers with Lennard-Jones monomer-monomer interaction and anharmonic springs by means of sophisticated variants of multicanonical Monte Carlo methods.

Kinetic Anomalies in Addition-Aggregation Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We investigate irreversible aggregation in which monomer-monomer, monomer-cluster, and cluster-cluster reactions occur with constant but distinct rates K_{MM}, K_{MC}, and K_{CC}, respectively.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

A Systematic Comparison of Alpha‐Synuclein Seed Amplification Assays for Increasing Reproducibility

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Seed amplification assays (SAAs) enable ultrasensitive detection of misfolded α‐synuclein across biofluids and tissues. Yet, heterogeneity in protocols limits cross‐study comparability and clinical translation. Here, we review α‐synuclein SAA methods and their performance across various biological matrices.

Monomer dynamics of a wormlike chain

open access: yes, 2011
We derive the stochastic equations of motion for a tracer that is tightly attached to a semiflexible polymer and confined or agitated by an externally controlled potential.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Effects of photo-initiation and monomer composition onto performance of graft-copolymer based membrane adsorbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Photo-initiated surface-selective graft copoly- merisation onto polypropylene (PP) microfiltration membranes is an improved method to prepare porous membrane adsorbers [1].

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Radiation Graft Copolymerization of Vinyl Fluoride to Cotton, Hydrocellulose Fiber and Fabric

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
Cellulose-based materials are not in short supply and are characterized by relatively low cost. On the other hand, cellulose fibers have a wide range of valuable physical, chemical and mechanical properties that make them indispensable in a number of ...

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.
